The first building code was enacted in Connecticut on 9/1/71. From that time until 12/31/05, the code was updated 6 times for an average of approximately 5.7 years per update.
On 12/31/05 the State of Connecticut adopted the 2003 International Building Code series of books with the Connecticut Supplement as the basis of the State Building Code. These IBC books were the standard until 9/30/16, which was a period of 11 years.
On 10/1/16 the State of Connecticut adopted the 2012 International Building Code series of books and the Connecticut Supplement. These books were the standard for two years.
From 10/1/18 the State of Connecticut adopted the 2015 International Building Code series of books with the 10/1/18 Connecticut Supplement.
The current plan is to implement a new code on 10/1/19 which will incorporate the 2018 IBC code books. Starting in 2021, the code will be automatically updated every three years to match the 3 year cycle of updates of the IBC code.

Timeline of the Connecticut Building Code
As is common with many laws that automatically are updated, the standard legislative policy is to adopt the new laws on October 1st. These rules apply to the building code books as well. A challenge with this policy is that the State Building Code books (which are the IBC code books with the correct Connecticut Supplement pages) are usually not printed until a month or two after they become the law.
